Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Lyon County, Iowa

St John Condos helps travelers from Lyon County, Iowa, plan a week of exploring the island from a villa at the Westin St John Resort. Ask the local team anything before you book, and they will walk you through the options.

Lyon County sits in the northwest corner of Iowa, where winters are cold and the landscape is wide and flat. Many people who live there find that a week on a Caribbean island offers a welcome change of pace, with warm water, open air, and a slower rhythm of days. A stay in a villa gives you room to spread out and plan each day around what you want to see. Most visitors from the Midwest reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, you can settle in and decide how much of the island you want to explore. Because the island is small, a single week leaves plenty of room for both activity and rest, depending on your taste.

Planning Your Week Away From Lyon County

  1. Getting From Lyon County. Start by looking at the usual route for travelers from northwest Iowa, which almost always passes through St. Thomas. Plan for a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay, since that is how most visitors reach the island. Pack with the ferry in mind, keeping bags manageable, and keep your travel documents close at hand for the crossing.
  2. Choosing When to Leave Iowa. Iowa winters are long and cold, so many people from Lyon County choose to travel during the colder months when the contrast with home feels greatest. Think about your own calendar, your work, and the school schedules of anyone traveling with you. The island's climate is warm through most of the year, so the real decision is about what season suits your plans.
  3. Planning the Stay. Rent a villa by the week so you have a steady base and a kitchen for simple breakfasts. Sketch out a loose plan for the days, leaving open time for swimming, walking, and simply sitting still. Before you book, ask the St John Condos team any questions about the villa, the resort, or the island, and they will help you compare options.
