Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Crawford County, Iowa

St John Condos helps travelers from Crawford County, Iowa, plan a shared trip for three generations on St. John, with villas rented by the week at the Westin St John Resort. Our local team answers questions before you book.

A trip with grandparents, parents, and children asks for a different kind of planning than a trip for two. Crawford County families often gather across several households, and the older members may want quiet mornings while the younger ones want to be in the water. Looking for a place with room to spread out, with separate spaces to retreat to, is a sensible starting point for that mix of needs. St. John sits in the Caribbean, far from the flat farmland and cold winters many Iowa families know well. Its warm, steady climate suits people of every age, and the island's pace tends to slow everyone down in a pleasant way. For a multigenerational group, that shared slower rhythm is often the real reason the trip works, so it helps to plan around it from the beginning.

Getting from Crawford County to St. John

  1. Travel to St. Thomas. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which uses airport code STT. Coordinate arrival times across the group so that everyone lands within a reasonable window. From the airport, a taxi will take you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John, and your group can travel together.
  2. Choosing when to leave. Iowa winters are cold, so many families from Crawford County find the islands appealing during the colder months at home. Think about school calendars, grandparents' health and energy, and any family milestones. Talk with the whole group early, since older relatives may prefer a particular season, and the younger ones may have strong opinions about the water.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a multigenerational group well because everyone can settle into their own space. Decide early who needs step-free access, a quiet bedroom, or a place to rest in the afternoon. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so consider whether you will rely on taxis or a single rental vehicle for the group.
