Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Kossuth County, Iowa

St John Condos helps travelers from Kossuth County, Iowa, plan a trip for three generations together, with villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John that give everyone room to gather and to rest apart.

A trip with grandparents, parents and children asks for more planning than a trip for two. Kossuth County sits in the north of Iowa, where winters are cold and long, so many families from here look forward to warm sun and the slower pace of a Caribbean island. Getting everyone in one place for a week takes some thought about space, mobility and rest, and that is where a villa often makes more sense than a single hotel room. The Westin St John Resort offers a setting where the youngest and the oldest members of a family can each find something to do. Some will want the water, others a quiet morning with coffee on a terrace, and everyone can come together for meals. St John Condos answers questions before you book, so you can talk through what each generation needs before any decision is made.

Planning a shared trip from Kossuth County

  1. Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas (STT), then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. With older relatives in the group, plan for a few extra pauses and confirm mobility needs ahead of time. If you rent a car on the island, remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth reviewing with everyone before you set out.
  2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Kossuth County winters can be harsh, so many families from this part of Iowa choose travel dates in the colder months at home. Talk with the whole group about school calendars, work commitments and the health needs of your oldest members. A shared calendar, agreed well before the trip, keeps the planning calm and gives everyone time to arrange their own care and packing.
  3. Planning the stay together. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a multigenerational group that wants shared space with some privacy. Decide early who needs a bedroom near the main living area and who prefers a quieter spot. Ask St John Condos questions about the layout and the setup of the villa so each generation knows what to expect before arrival.

Frequently asked questions

Is a villa better than a hotel for a three-generation trip from Kossuth County?

For many families it is. A villa gives grandparents, parents and children their own rooms and a shared living area, so everyone can gather for meals and still step away for rest. Tell the team at St John Condos who is traveling, and they can help you think through what layout suits your group.

How should we prepare an older relative for the trip?

Start by talking with their doctor about the travel plan and any medications to carry. Think about walking distances, steps and where a rest break might be needed. St John Condos can answer questions about the villa so you can plan for comfort, and you can bring a copy of any important health information for the group.
