Planning a three-generation trip from West Des Moines
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for older relatives to have extra help with bags and transfers, and ask us which villa layouts keep the trip to the property as easy as possible on the day you arrive.
- Choosing when to leave Iowa. Winters in Iowa are cold, so many families from West Des Moines prefer to book during the cooler months of the year. Think about school calendars, grandparents' health, and how well everyone travels. Booking early gives the whole group more choice of villas, and our team can help you compare options before you commit to dates that suit every generation.
- Planning the stay together. Villas are rented by the week, which suits multigenerational groups well. Decide early who needs a bedroom on the ground floor, which days are for beach time, and which are for slower pursuits. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so plan rental cars carefully for the younger drivers in your party. Share the plan with everyone before you leave home.
