Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Story City, Iowa
St John Condos can help a multigenerational family from Story City, Iowa, plan one shared villa stay on St. John, where grandparents, parents, and children can settle into the same rental together. The team answers questions before you book.
Story City sits in the Midwest, where winters are cold and long, so a week of warm Caribbean sun can feel like a real change of pace for everyone in the family. When three generations travel together, the trip has to work for a grandparent who wants quiet mornings, a parent who wants a little structure, and children who want to move. A villa at the Westin St John Resort gives each group room to do its own thing while still sharing a meal on the same terrace. Planning this kind of trip is mostly about small details: who needs a bedroom near a bathroom, who wants to sleep late, and how many people will fit comfortably in the rooms. St John Condos is a local team that answers these questions before you book, so you can talk through the layout with people who know the island. Keep the tone practical and unhurried, and the rest of the planning tends to fall into place.

Getting from Story City to St. John
- Fly into St. Thomas. Most visitors from Story City reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, using the airport code STT, and then taking a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay. Plan for a few legs of travel, and make sure every generation has comfortable seats, snacks, and any medications packed in carry-on bags.
- Choose your departure window. Iowa winters are cold, so many families from Story City find that a late winter or early spring departure feels especially welcome. Talk with the whole group before picking dates, since grandparents, working adults, and school-age children each have different constraints. Once you settle on a window, keep the calendar flexible enough to allow for rest days after the journey.
- Plan the stay together. Rentals are by the week, so a seven-day stay gives the family time to settle without rushing. Decide early who will handle groceries, who wants a beach morning, and who needs a quiet afternoon. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so a shared rental car may suit some groups better than separate vehicles.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good fit for grandparents, parents, and kids traveling together?
A villa usually gives each generation its own space while keeping everyone under one roof. Ask the St John Condos team about bedroom layouts, bathroom counts, and how the rooms are arranged, so older travelers can avoid stairs and younger ones have room to spread out. Clear answers before booking make the shared week much more relaxed.
What should a family from Story City pack for a Caribbean stay?
Pack lightweight clothing, sun protection, comfortable walking shoes, and any prescriptions in carry-on luggage. Because Iowa weather is cold for much of the year, bring a light layer for air-conditioned spaces and evenings. Our team can also share practical notes about the island so your packing list fits your group.
