A simple plan for families from Roland

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors fly to St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From Red Hook, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Families traveling with car seats, strollers, or lots of bags should plan this route with extra patience and room in the schedule. Driving on St. John is on the left, so keep that in mind if you plan to rent a vehicle.
  2. Choosing when to go. Iowa winters are cold, so many families from Roland look toward the coldest months as the right time to head south. The island stays warm through much of the year, which makes it a comfortable choice whenever school calendars and work schedules allow. Think about your children's routines, any holidays you want to keep, and how long you can be away from home before you settle on dates.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits families who want time to rest and explore without rushing. Decide early whether you want quiet days at the resort, outings across the island, or a mix of both. Share your family's needs with our local team, such as bedrooms, pool access, and meal preferences, so the villa fits your group well before you book.
