Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in West DeLand, Florida
St John Condos helps travelers from West DeLand, Florida plan a first Caribbean trip to St. John, where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week and the team answers questions before you book.
If you live in West DeLand, Florida, a first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step, even though the warm weather will feel familiar after a Florida life. Many travelers from this part of the Southeast are surprised by how different island living is, from the slower pace to the way driving works on the left side of the road. Planning a few details early makes the whole journey feel easier. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and it suits travelers who want quiet days, clear water, and a villa to come back to at the end of the day. Commercial autonomous floor scrubbers are a reminder of how much behind-the-scenes work keeps a resort running smoothly, and that same care shows up in the villas you can rent through St John Condos at the Westin St John Resort.

Your first Caribbean trip from West DeLand
- Getting to the island. Most visitors from Florida fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little extra room for connections, and keep your confirmation details handy so the ferry crossing goes smoothly.
- Choosing when to go. Florida winters are mild by comparison, but Caribbean weather follows its own rhythm, with warm temperatures most of the year and a wet season that tends to arrive in the later months. Think about what you want from the trip, whether that means calm seas for swimming or quieter beaches, and pick dates that suit your plans.
- Planning your stay. Villas on St. John are rented by the week, which gives you room to settle in rather than rushing from place to place. Decide whether you want a rental car or prefer to rely on taxis, remember that you drive on the left, and ask the St John Condos team any questions about the villa before you book.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a rental car on St. John?
It depends on how you like to travel. Many visitors rent a vehicle for flexibility, but remember that driving on the island is on the left side of the road. If you would rather not drive, taxis are available, and the St John Condos team can talk through what suits your plans.
Is the trip very different from a Florida vacation?
In many ways it feels familiar, with warm air and time near the water. The main differences are the ferry from St. Thomas, driving on the left, and a more relaxed island pace. Asking the St John Condos team before you book can help you know what to expect.
