Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in West Burlington, Iowa
St John Condos can help families from West Burlington, Iowa, plan a villa stay at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, with a local team that answers questions before you book.
A family trip from West Burlington, Iowa, to the Caribbean asks a lot of a parent who is already juggling school calendars, packing lists, and a few sleepy children. Iowa winters are cold and gray, so a week of warm water and open sand can feel like a real reset for everyone in the car or on the plane. The question is less whether the trip is worth it and more how to make it feel easy from the first morning of planning. Villas at the Westin St John Resort give families more room to spread out than a typical hotel room, with space to unpack and a rhythm that suits kids and grown-ups alike. Most visitors reach the island by flying into St. Thomas, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Our team at St John Condos knows that route well and can talk through it with you honestly, including the parts that take a little patience.

Planning a family trip from West Burlington
- Getting to St. John. Most families from West Burlington will fly out of a regional airport to a larger hub, then connect to St. Thomas, which is the airport code STT. From the airport, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Pack light enough to manage bags on the ferry dock, and keep important documents and medications in a carry-on bag.
- Choosing when to leave Iowa. Iowa can turn cold and icy in the cooler months, so many families prefer to leave during a school break that lines up with a stretch of dependable weather on the islands. Think about your children's school calendar, your own work obligations, and how much travel fatigue you can handle. Once you have a window in mind, ask our team which weeks suit a family stay before you commit.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives your family room to settle in rather than rushing from one plan to the next. Sketch out a loose plan for beach days, quiet afternoons, and meals at home, and leave some space for spontaneity. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so consider how you will get around and whether you want a rental vehicle for the trip.
