Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Burlington, Iowa
St John Condos helps travelers from Burlington, Iowa, plan a first Caribbean trip, with villas at the Westin St John Resort rented by the week and a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
A first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step when you are coming from the middle of the country. For many people in Burlington, Iowa, the islands are a place they have only seen in photographs, and the planning can seem more involved than a trip to a familiar lake or city. That feeling is normal, and it is easier to manage once you know the general shape of the journey and what a week on the island is actually like. St John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and the Westin St John Resort offers villas rented by the week, which suits travelers who want room to settle in rather than a quick visit. Iowa winters are cold, so the warm, steady climate of the islands is often the first thing visitors notice. Our team is glad to talk through the details with you, including what to pack and how the island is laid out, before you commit to anything.

Planning Your First Caribbean Trip from Burlington
- Getting From Burlington. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Plan a little extra room in your day for these transfers, and keep your luggage manageable, since you will be carrying it on the ferry. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so if you plan to rent a car, take a moment to adjust before heading out.
- Choosing When to Leave Iowa. Think about when you want to step away from the Iowa winter and what kind of weather you hope to find. The Caribbean stays warm through most of the year, so the question is more about your schedule, school calendars, and how much you want to spread out your time off. Talk with family about dates early, and consider whether a week or a longer stay fits the rest of your year.
- Planning Your Stay. Because villas are rented by the week, you can settle in and set your own pace rather than moving from place to place. Decide which days you want to be on the beach, which you want to explore the island, and which you want to simply rest in the villa. Bring any questions you have about the property, the island, or getting around to our team, who will answer them before you book.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know much about the islands before I go?
No. A first trip is easier when you accept that some things will be new. Our team can walk you through what to expect on St. John, from the ferry crossing to daily life at the resort, so you arrive with a clear picture rather than guessing at every turn.
Is a villa a good choice for a first Caribbean trip from Iowa?
For many travelers it is. Villas rented by the week give you room to unwind, cook a few meals, and learn the rhythm of the island at your own speed. If you have questions about whether a villa suits your group, ask us before you book and we will help you decide.
