This page walks through how to think about that week, from getting there to settling into a villa at the Westin St John Resort. Planning a week away from a place like Olmsted often means balancing time off work, the season you prefer, and how much you want to see versus how much you want to rest. St John rewards both kinds of trips. Some people fill their days with trails and beaches, while others spend most of the week on a shaded porch. Planning your week on St. John from Olmsted

  1. Getting from Olmsted. Most visitors from the Midwest fly into St. Thomas, which is the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little slack into your travel day, since connections and weather can shift plans. Keep your bags light for the ferry, and confirm your transfer details with the team before you leave home.
  2. Choosing when to leave. Illinois winters are cold, so many travelers from Olmsted are drawn to the islands during the coldest months at home. The Caribbean stays warm through most of the year, though rain comes and goes in every season. Consider what you want most from the trip: calm seas, quieter roads, or a time when your own calendar is open. Let those priorities guide the season you pick.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas on St. John are rented by the week, which suits a trip of this length well. Settle on the number of days you want, then decide how much of each day to spend out exploring. Remember that driving on the island is on the left, so take a moment to adjust before you set off. Ask our team about the villa layout and the area around the Westin St John Resort before you book.
