Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in North Aurora, Illinois

St John Condos helps travelers from North Aurora, Illinois, plan a first Caribbean trip to St. John, where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week and the local team answers questions before you book.

If you live in North Aurora and have never been to the Caribbean, the first trip can feel like a lot to organize at once. The islands are warm, the water is clear, and the pace is unlike the Midwest in most ways that matter. Many first-time visitors find it helpful to think through the basics before they commit to dates, a rental, or a plan for each day. Coming from a Midwestern winter, the contrast is real. Days on St. John stay warm year round, and much of the rhythm of the island centers on the outdoors, the sea, and a slower kind of morning. A villa rented by the week gives you room to settle in, cook a few meals, and let the trip unfold without rushing from one stop to the next.

Planning your first Caribbean trip from North Aurora

  1. Getting to St. John. Most visitors from North Aurora fly into St. Thomas, the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little slack into the day, since island connections are easiest when you are not trying to catch a tight onward link, and keep your documents and luggage tags within reach.
  2. Choosing when to leave Illinois. Winters in northern Illinois are cold and gray, so many families from North Aurora choose a Caribbean trip during those months for the contrast. Shoulder periods can also suit travelers who want fewer crowds. Think about school calendars, work leave, and how much warm weather you want, then compare what each season offers before fixing your dates.
  3. Planning the stay. Renting a villa by the week suits a first trip well, because you can set your own pace and keep a kitchen for simple breakfasts. Before you book, sort out what matters most to your group, whether that is beach time, quiet mornings, or a few planned outings. Ask the St John Condos team any questions about the property and the island before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Is St. John a good first Caribbean destination for someone from North Aurora?

Many first-time visitors find it a comfortable choice because it feels relaxed and manageable. The island is small, the villas are self-contained, and the pace is easy to adjust. If you are used to Midwestern winters, the warm climate and clear water can make the trip feel like a real change of season.

What should I know about driving on St. John?

On St. John you drive on the left side of the road, which can feel unfamiliar at first. Many visitors take a little time to get used to it before heading out on longer roads. Think about how you will get around each day, and ask the St John Condos team what to expect before you arrive.
