Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Niantic, Illinois

St John Condos helps travelers from Niantic, Illinois, plan a first Caribbean trip to villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, US Virgin Islands, and answers questions before you book.

A first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step when you are starting from a small town in central Illinois. The water is warm, the pace is slower, and the island looks very different from the flat fields and winter snow that many people in Niantic know well. Taking the time to understand the route and the rhythm of island life makes the whole experience feel far less uncertain. St John Condos is a local team that answers questions before you book, so you can ask about the villas at the Westin St John Resort, what a week there feels like, and how to prepare. Many first-time visitors arrive with a long list of questions, and that is exactly what we are here for. Bring your list, and we will walk through it with you at your own pace.

Planning your first island trip from Niantic

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors from Illinois fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi takes you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep your bags light, expect a short but busy transfer, and remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which may feel unfamiliar at first.
  2. Choosing your season. Illinois winters are cold and gray, so many travelers from Niantic look forward to warm, sunny days by the water. Think about how much rain you are comfortable with, how crowded you want the island to feel, and how your schedule fits around work and school. Once you have a rough sense of timing, we can help you think it through.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives you room to slow down, cook a few meals, and settle into island life rather than rushing from place to place. Decide which kind of days you want, whether that is quiet mornings on a terrace or full days out exploring. A clear plan for the week keeps a first trip relaxed and easy to enjoy.

Frequently asked questions

I have never been to the Caribbean before. Is a week on St. John a good first trip from Niantic?

For many first-time visitors, a full week gives enough time to adjust to the warm climate, the ferry routine, and driving on the left. A week in a villa lets you relax without feeling pressed to see everything. Tell us what you enjoy most, and we can help you judge whether a week suits you.

How do I know whether I should bring a rental car or rely on other ways to get around?

Driving on St. John is on the left, and some roads are narrow and hilly, so think honestly about your comfort level before you decide. Many travelers from Illinois feel more at ease once they have a plan for getting to their villa. Ask us about your options, and we will explain what to expect before you book.
