Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Mount Erie, Illinois

St John Condos helps travelers from Mount Erie, Illinois, plan a multigenerational trip to St. John, where a family can share a villa at the Westin St John Resort and keep everyone together for the week.

Planning a trip that brings grandparents, parents, and children together takes more care than a typical getaway. Mount Erie sits in the heart of Illinois, where winters are cold and summers are warm, so many families here are glad to trade gray skies for the Caribbean sun. A villa gives everyone room to spread out, from early risers to those who like a late breakfast on the terrace. Because each generation has different needs, the best trips leave space for both shared time and quiet time. Some days can center on the beach or the water, while others can be slower and closer to the villa. St John Condos is a local team that will talk through these details with you before you book, so the plan fits the people you are traveling with.

Getting from Mount Erie to St. John

  1. Reach the Caribbean gateway. Most visitors from Illinois fly into St. Thomas, the USVI airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan this route with older relatives in mind, and consider whether a shared taxi suits your group's luggage and mobility needs.
  2. Pick the right season to leave. Illinois winters are long and cold, which makes the islands especially appealing from late winter into spring. Think about school calendars, grandparents' health, and how much heat your group can comfortably handle. Booking early gives your family more choice over dates and villa layouts.
  3. Plan the stay around everyone. Villas are rented by the week, which suits multigenerational groups well. Share the schedule early, so each person knows when rest time, beach time, and shared meals will happen. Remember that St. John drives on the left side of the road, so the younger drivers in your group should be ready for that.

Frequently asked questions

Is a villa really better than separate hotel rooms for three generations?

For many families, yes. A villa keeps everyone under one roof with a kitchen for shared meals, separate sleeping spaces for different ages, and an easy place to rest. St John Condos can explain the layouts so you can judge which one suits your group.

How do we handle getting around St. John with older relatives?

Plan ahead for transportation and ask your questions before you book. Remember that roads on St. John run on the left, so confirm who will drive. The St John Condos team can share what to expect so your grandparents feel comfortable from arrival onward.
