Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Milan, Illinois
St John Condos helps three-generation families from Milan, Illinois, plan a shared stay at a villa on St. John, a calm island in the US Virgin Islands. Ask the local team before you book.
Planning a trip that brings grandparents, parents, and children together takes a bit more thought than a couple's getaway. Milan sits in northern Illinois, where winters are cold and gray, so many families from here look forward to warm sunshine and clear water. A villa gives everyone room to spread out, cook together, and still share a porch in the evening. Keeping a multigenerational group comfortable means balancing quiet mornings with easy outings. Some relatives want to swim and snorkel, others prefer a shaded chair with a book. A rental villa at the Westin St John Resort lets each generation keep its own rhythm while still gathering for meals. The local team can talk through room layouts and practical details before you commit to anything.

Getting your Milan group to St. John
- Start with the flight. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. Gather everyone's travel dates early, since grandparents and young children may have different needs for seats and connections. Once you land, a taxi can take the group to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay, the main town on St. John.
- Pick your season. Illinois winters push many families toward the islands, so the drier months of the winter season are a popular choice for a shared trip. Think about the ages in your group before choosing dates. Warm weather suits everyone, but a little shade and a flexible plan keep older relatives and little ones comfortable as the days go on.
- Plan the stay together. Rent a villa by the week so you have space for everyone, then sketch out a loose plan with each generation's favorite activities. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road, so consider who will do the driving. Share the plan with the St John Condos team, who can answer questions before you book.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa better than a hotel for three generations?
For a group from Milan, a villa often works better because everyone can have separate rooms and a shared living space. You can cook simple meals, keep schedules flexible, and give grandparents a quiet spot away from the energy of the younger children. The team can describe the layout so you can judge whether it fits your family.
Do we need a car on St. John?
Many families find a rental car useful for getting around the island, especially with older relatives or small children. Remember that you will be driving on the left side of the road. If you prefer not to drive, ask the St John Condos team what options are close to your villa before you book.
