Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Midway, Florida
St John Condos helps travelers from Midway, Florida plan a week of snorkeling and beach days on St. John, with villas at the Westin St John Resort and a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
Midway sits in the Florida panhandle region of the Southeast, where the water is warm and the beaches are a familiar part of life. Many travelers from here already know the feeling of sand between their toes, so a week on St. John can feel like a natural step up. The island is small, green and quiet compared with busier resort towns, and the reef just off the shore draws snorkelers who want clear water and easy access. A week of snorkeling and beach days works well on St. John because the rhythm is simple. Mornings can be spent in the water while the light is good, afternoons can slow down on a shaded terrace, and evenings can be as relaxed as you like. Villas at the Westin St John Resort give you room to spread out, which suits families and friends traveling together from Midway.

Planning Your Trip from Midway
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors from Midway fly into St. Thomas, which is the airport code STT. From there, a taxi will take you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light for the ferry, keep your snorkel gear in your carry-on if you can, and plan for the short transfers so the first day feels easy rather than rushed.
- Choosing When to Go. Florida winters are mild in the panhandle, so you may find the islands feel like a change of pace rather than a true escape from the cold. Many people from the Southeast choose to travel during the warmer and drier stretches of the Caribbean calendar for the calmest water. Think about your own schedule, your work commitments and whether you want a quieter season or a livelier one.
- Planning Your Stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a snorkeling-focused trip well. Plan a loose schedule with a few planned outings, such as a boat day or a reef visit, and leave plenty of open time for the beach. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road, so think about whether you want a rental car or prefer to rely on taxis.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a rental car for a snorkeling week on St. John?
It depends on how you like to move around. Driving on St. John is on the left, which takes some getting used to. Many visitors from Midway find that a mix of taxis and walking covers their snorkeling and beach plans, while others prefer the freedom of their own vehicle. The St John Condos team can talk through what works for your villa and your plans before you book.
What should I bring for snorkeling from a villa?
Bring your own mask, snorkel and fins if you already own them, since that saves hunting for gear once you arrive. Reef-safe sunscreen is a good idea, along with a rash guard for longer days in the water, a waterproof bag for your phone and a light towel. If you have questions about what the villa provides, the St John Condos team can answer them before you travel.
