Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Madison, Illinois
St John Condos helps travelers from Madison, Illinois, plan a beach-focused trip to St. John, a US Virgin Islands island where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week. Ask the local team anything before you book.
Madison sits in the Midwest, where winters are long and cold, so a trip built around the beach can feel like a real change of season. Many travelers from this part of Illinois arrive at St. John wanting sand, clear water and a slower pace, with no schedule beyond the next swim. A villa rented by the week gives you room to settle in rather than rush from one stop to the next. Planning from a landlocked state takes a little more thought than planning from the coast. You will want to think about packing light, sunscreen for a tropical sun, and a plan for the ferry ride between the airport side and Cruz Bay. The team at St John Condos can walk you through these details before you commit, so the beach stays the focus of the trip rather than the logistics.

Getting from Madison to the beach
- Reaching the island. Most visitors from Madison fly to St. Thomas, the STT airport, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan your luggage with that route in mind, since you will be carrying bags onto a boat. Keep essentials in a small bag so you can settle in quickly once you reach the villa.
- Picking your season. Madison's winters are cold, so many people from Illinois find the island appealing in the colder months at home. Think about what kind of weather you want for swimming and lounging, and which weeks suit your work or school calendar. Your own climate at home is a useful comparison point, not a rule. Share your preferred dates with the team and they can help you think through options.
- Planning your stay. Because villas are rented by the week, you can build your days around the beach and let the rest unfold. St. John is an island where driving is on the left, so consider whether you want a car or prefer to walk and take taxis. Tell the St John Condos team what you hope to do, and they will help you match your plans to the right villa before you book.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a car when I visit St. John from Madison?
It depends on how much you plan to move around. Driving on St. John is on the left, which may take some getting used to if you are coming from the right-side driving habits of Illinois. How do I get from the airport to the villa?
