Planning a family vacation from Lorenzo means balancing a lot of needs at once: younger travelers who want to splash in the water, older relatives who want a quiet porch, and parents who would like a little space to unwind. A villa at the Westin St John Resort on St. John gives a family room to spread out, with separate areas to gather for meals or settle in for the evening. Our team can talk through how your group likes to spend its days so the trip feels easy rather than rushed. Coming from the Illinois prairie and its cold winters, many families find that the Virgin Islands feel like a complete change of pace. The warm climate and slower rhythm of island life tend to suit a week away from school and routine. You do not need a detailed itinerary before you arrive. What you do need is a clear sense of what your family enjoys, and a place to stay that lets everyone choose their own pace each morning.

Getting from Lorenzo to St. John

  1. Start with the flight. Most visitors from Lorenzo fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, the town on the eastern end of the island where the passenger ferry departs for Cruz Bay. Plan for a short transfer between each leg, and keep young children close as you move through the connections together.
  2. Pick your travel window. Illinois winters are long and gray, so many families from Lorenzo choose a window during the colder months when a warm beach feels especially welcome. Talk with our team about which weeks suit your school calendar and your budget. Summer brings its own rhythm, and we can point out what to expect so your group arrives prepared for the conditions you will meet.
  3. Plan the stay around family life. Once you arrive, a villa rented by the week gives you a home base for meals, rest, and shared time. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so consider whether you want a rental car or prefer to rely on taxis for certain outings. Share the ages and interests of everyone in your party, and we will help you match the villa and the schedule to your family.
