Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Lane, Illinois
St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John for friends who want a week together, and our local team can help travelers from Lane, Illinois, plan the trip before they book.
A week away with friends takes a little shared planning, and Lane, in Illinois, sits in the Midwest, far from the warm water of the Virgin Islands. Most of the group will likely be leaving a cold, inland home for a place with an easy island pace. Agreeing early on dates, budget and who handles the bookings keeps the trip from becoming a tangle of separate plans. Once the group settles on a rhythm, the villa becomes the shared home base. Villas rent by the week, which suits a crew that wants long mornings, slow dinners and time to do nothing in particular. Think of this page as a starting point for a conversation with your friends, and bring in our team whenever a question comes up.

Planning a week away from Lane
- Reaching St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for everyone to arrive on the same general schedule if you can, so the group is not waiting around at the dock. Keep in mind that driving on St. John is on the left, which catches some first-time visitors off guard.
- Choosing your departure. Leaving Lane in the middle of a Midwest winter often sends people looking for warm sun, and many groups aim for the cooler months of the year when the islands feel especially inviting. Talk through what your group values most, whether that is calm weather, quieter days or a particular stretch of time off work. Once you agree, share the target dates with everyone so people can request leave early.
- Planning the stay. A villa for the whole group works well when you decide ahead of time how you will share meals, transport and the shopping. Agree on one person to coordinate the calendar and one to track shared costs. Leave open blocks in the schedule so the week does not feel rushed. Our team at St John Condos can answer questions about the villas before anyone commits.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa really better than separate rooms for a group from Lane?
For a group of friends, a villa usually means more shared space, a common kitchen and room to relax together after a day out. Everyone keeps a little privacy, yet the group still feels like it is on the same trip. Talk with your friends about how much time you want to spend together, then choose the layout that matches that plan.
How should we handle the trip from Illinois if some friends are flying from elsewhere?
Many groups travel from different cities and meet at St. Thomas or at the ferry in Red Hook, so it helps to agree on a meeting point in advance. Share flight details in one group thread and confirm the taxi and ferry plans the night before. Our team can also explain the arrival steps to anyone who is new to the islands.
