Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in La Rose, Illinois

St John Condos helps families from La Rose, Illinois, plan a relaxed island trip, with villas at the Westin St John Resort rented by the week and a local team ready to answer questions before you book.

For a family leaving La Rose, a vacation on St. John asks for a little more planning than a weekend drive would. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas and then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, the pace slows down quickly, and that shift is often the part children and parents enjoy most together. A villa gives a family room to spread out in a way a standard hotel room rarely does. Mornings can start slowly, afternoons can be spent however everyone likes, and evenings can be as quiet or as lively as the group prefers. Planning the trip around that rhythm, rather than a packed list of stops, tends to make the week feel like a true break from home in La Rose.

Planning your family trip from La Rose

  1. Getting to the island. Most families from La Rose begin with a flight to St. Thomas, airport code STT, and then a taxi to Red Hook. From there the passenger ferry carries you to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light enough to manage luggage on the ferry, and keep the children's essentials in a bag you can carry yourself. Driving on St. John is on the left, so plan who will handle the wheel before you arrive.
  2. Choosing when to travel. Winters in La Rose bring cold weather, which makes a warm island week especially appealing to many families. Think about school calendars, work commitments, and how much time everyone can realistically take away from home. Talk through the timing together early, so that the trip you choose fits your family's real schedule rather than an idealized one.
  3. Planning the stay. Because villas are rented by the week, you can settle in and let the days take shape without moving from place to place. Decide ahead of time which days are for rest and which are for exploring, and leave some open space for spontaneity. Bring the team at St John Condos your questions about the villa and the resort before you book, so every member of the family knows what to expect.
