Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Junction, Illinois

St John Condos helps travelers from Junction, Illinois, plan a first Caribbean trip to St. John, where a villa at the Westin St John Resort gives you a calm base for the week. Ask the local team before you book.

Junction sits in the heart of Illinois, a long way from warm water, so a first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big leap. Most of the time, Midwest travelers simply want to know what to expect: how the island feels, how to get there, and whether a villa rental suits a first visit. Those are good questions, and you do not need to have every answer before you start. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and it has an easy, unhurried pace that many first-time visitors find refreshing. Most people reach it by flying to St. Thomas, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, you will notice that driving is on the left, which is worth remembering before you pick up a rental car.

Planning your first trip from Junction

  1. Reaching St. John. Most travelers from Junction fly into St. Thomas, the island with the main airport, and then continue by taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan your bags with the ferry in mind, since you will be carrying them on and off. Keep in mind that the island drives on the left, so a short orientation before you head out on the roads can make the first day much more relaxed.
  2. Choosing when to go. Illinois winters are cold and gray, so many people from Junction find the Caribbean especially welcome during the coldest months at home. Think about what matters to you: quieter weeks, warmer water, or simply a break from the familiar. Whatever season you pick, the island's climate stays warm year round. Let the time of year follow your own schedule and your own sense of what a good week looks like.
  3. Planning your stay. Villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week, which suits a first trip well because it gives you room to slow down. Decide early how many people are coming, what you hope to do, and how much time you want for simply sitting still. A little planning around meals, transport, and rest days keeps the trip relaxed. Your questions are welcome, so ask the local team anything before you book.
