A milestone is worth marking somewhere that feels different from everyday life, and for many people in Gunn City, Missouri, that means a warm island with clear water and slower days. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, offers that kind of setting, and a villa gives your group room to gather, cook together, and talk without the bustle of a hotel corridor. Plenty of anniversaries, birthdays, and retirements have been celebrated at the Westin St John Resort, and the villas here are rented by the week, which suits a family or a small circle of friends. If you are coming from the Midwest, you will notice the change in climate right away, and it is worth packing light fabrics, sunscreen, and a plan for quiet time as well as celebration.

Getting from Gunn City to St. John

  1. Reaching St. Thomas. Most visitors from Gunn City fly into St. Thomas, using the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there you ride the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan this part of your journey with your celebration guests in mind, so everyone knows who is arriving when and who is coordinating pickups.
  2. Choosing your departure window. Missouri winters are cold, so many travelers from Gunn City prefer to leave for the islands during the colder months when the change in weather feels especially welcome. Think about the date of your milestone first, then work backward to pick a stay that suits your group's schedules, school calendars, and budget.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, so decide early how many days you want for the celebration itself and how many for rest. Share the plan with your group, sort out who is responsible for meals and outings, and remember that driving on St. John is on the left. Our team can help you line up details before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a rental car to celebrate on St. John?

Many guests choose to rent a vehicle so they can move between beaches, restaurants, and viewpoints at their own pace. Remember that you will be driving on the left side of the road. If your group prefers to relax at the resort, you may find that you need less transportation than you expected, and our team can talk through the options with you.

Is a villa better than a hotel room for a milestone celebration?

A villa gives your group a shared space for meals, toasts, and conversation, which many families from Gunn City find more comfortable than separate hotel rooms. Villas are rented by the week, so you can plan a longer, more relaxed gathering. Ask our local team which layout suits your group size before you book.
