Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Cypress, Illinois

St John Condos helps travelers from Cypress, Illinois, plan a week of exploring the island, from the first flight through the last evening in a villa at the Westin St John Resort. Ask the local team anything before you book.

A week on St. John gives you room to slow down. Cypress is a long way from the Caribbean, so most of the planning happens before you leave home, and that is where a little local knowledge pays off. The island is small enough that you can settle into one base and still see a good deal of its roads, beaches and quiet coves without rushing from place to place. Many visitors from central Illinois arrive expecting a resort week and end up wanting to explore instead. The Westin St John Resort sits as a comfortable home base, and a villa gives you a kitchen, space to spread out and a reason to stay in for an easy morning. Plan a few open days so the week can take the shape you want, not the shape of a schedule.

Your week from Cypress to St. John

  1. Getting from Cypress. Most travelers from Cypress fly into St. Thomas, which is the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light enough to manage the ferry dock with your bags. Once you reach the island, remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which may feel unfamiliar at first.
  2. Choosing when to leave. Illinois winters are cold and gray, so many families from Cypress look forward to the warm Caribbean climate in the colder months. Consider what you want from the week, whether that is calm beach days, hiking or simply rest. Mid-year trips can feel quieter, and the island keeps a relaxed pace whatever season you pick. Let the weather you want guide the dates you choose.
  3. Planning your stay. Villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week, so plan your arrival and departure days around the ferry and flight connections from Cypress. Make a short list of the places you want to visit and leave room for spontaneity. Share your plans with the St John Condos team before you book, and they will help you match the villa to your group.
