Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Bishop Hill, Illinois
St John Condos helps travelers from Bishop Hill, Illinois, plan a week of exploring St. John, rented villa by villa at the Westin St John Resort. Our local team answers questions before you book, so you can settle the details first.
Bishop Hill sits in the Midwest, where winters are cold and gray for much of the year. Many travelers from here arrive at St. John looking for a stretch of warm air, quiet mornings, and a slower pace than the one they left behind. A week gives enough room to settle in, to explore the island at an easy rhythm, and to come home rested. Because St. John is a small island, a week here rewards a plan that is loose rather than packed. You might spend one day on the water, another hiking inland, and a few afternoons simply sitting on your villa's terrace. Renting by the week suits this kind of trip well, since you can unpack once and let the days unfold without constant packing and repacking.

Planning a week on St. John from Bishop Hill
- Reaching the island. Most visitors from the Bishop Hill area fly into St. Thomas, the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for this final leg early in the day so that your arrival is calm and unhurried, with time to collect your bags and find your rental.
- Choosing your season. Illinois winters are cold, so many travelers from the Midwest choose to leave during the coldest months, when the warmth of the islands feels most welcome. The islands stay warm through much of the year, so the right time depends on what you want from the week. Think about how much rain you can tolerate and whether you prefer quieter weeks or a livelier feel.
- Planning your stay. A week gives you room to balance quiet days at the villa with a few outings across the island. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which takes a little getting used to for drivers from Illinois. Keep your first day light, and sketch out two or three things you want to see so the rest of the week stays flexible.
