Planning your week on St. John from Aplington

1. Getting from Aplington. Most visitors from Iowa reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which is the usual airport code STT. From there, a taxi takes you to Red Hook, and a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep in mind that driving on the island is on the left side of the road, so think about whether you want a rental car or prefer to rely on taxis for the week.
2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Winters in Iowa are cold, so many travelers from Aplington find that a warm-season escape feels especially welcome. Think about what matters most to you, whether that is calm water for snorkeling, quieter beaches, or a fuller calendar of things to do. Once you have a rough window in mind, check in with St John Condos, who can tell you what to expect for the weeks you are considering.
3. Planning the stay. Because villas are rented by the week, a seven-day stay is the natural frame for a snorkeling trip. Pack a good mask, reef-safe sunscreen, and a light towel, and plan a couple of unhurried beach days so you are not rushing from one spot to the next. For travelers who also want to look into a commercial autonomous floor scrubber for work back home, you can keep that research separate from your vacation planning and focus on the water here.
