Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Alvin, Illinois
St John Condos is a local team that rents villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, and they answer questions before you book, which suits a family from Alvin planning a trip for three generations together.
Gathering grandparents, parents, and children on one trip takes a little more planning than a typical getaway, and that is where a clear plan helps most. For families from Alvin, a villa rented by the week can give everyone their own corner while keeping the group under one roof. Shared kitchens and open living spaces make mealtimes easier when ages and energy levels vary. The Westin St John Resort sits on an island where the pace stays relaxed and the sea stays close. Many travelers from the Midwest are used to flat land and long winters, so the warm, bright setting often feels like a welcome change for the whole family. Even the youngest travelers tend to enjoy the simple rhythm of slow mornings and easy afternoons together.

Getting from Alvin to St. John
- Reaching the island. Most visitors from Illinois fly into St. Thomas, where the airport code is STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. With three generations traveling, it helps to confirm each person's seat and bags early, so the group moves through the connections together and nobody is left waiting on the dock.
- Picking the season. Illinois winters are cold, so many families from Alvin prefer to travel to the islands when the northern weather feels hardest. Think about which dates suit the oldest and youngest members, since heat, sun, and rest needs differ. A short conversation with the St John Condos team can help you match the timing to your group's comfort.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives a multigenerational group room to settle in rather than rushing between places. Plan a loose schedule with some shared meals and some quiet time apart. Driving on St. John is on the left side of the road, so a calm first day of settling in is a good idea for anyone who will take the wheel.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good choice for three generations traveling together from Alvin?
Often it is. A villa gives grandparents, parents, and children separate bedrooms and shared living space in one place. You can eat together when you like and retreat to your own rooms when you need rest. Talk with the St John Condos team about the number of bedrooms and layout before you book so the arrangement fits your family.
How do we get from our home area to the villa on St. John?
Most travelers fly into St. Thomas and then take a taxi to Red Hook, followed by the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. The ferry is a short, scenic crossing that most families find easy. Keep everyone's documents together and let the St John Condos team know your group size so they can help you prepare.
