Getting from Wellman to St. John
- Reaching the island. Most visitors from Iowa fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. From there you take a taxi to Red Hook, then board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little slack in your schedule for the transfer, since island connections are part of the charm and not something to rush.
- Choosing when to leave. Leaving Iowa during the coldest weeks of winter is when the contrast feels the sharpest, but it also means booking early. Think about school calendars, work commitments and the weather you want to escape. A mid-winter departure gives you a clear break from the cold, while an earlier or later date may suit a quieter stretch on the island.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives you room to unpack, cook a few meals and settle into island rhythms. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so take a moment to get comfortable before heading out. Share your group size and needs with the St John Condos team early so they can match you with a villa that fits.
