Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Kalona, Iowa
St John Condos helps travelers from Kalona, Iowa, plan a villa stay at the Westin St John Resort, with room for grandparents, parents, and children to share one trip. Their local team answers questions before you book.
A family trip that spans three generations asks a lot of planning. Grandparents want a slower pace, parents want a little structure, and children want time in the water and sand. From Kalona, the trip starts far from the Caribbean, in a part of the country where winters are cold and the idea of warm sea breezes can feel distant. St John Condos understands that gap and works to close it with clear, honest answers. A villa rented by the week at the Westin St John Resort gives everyone their own space while keeping the group together. Mornings can belong to early risers, afternoons to rest, and evenings to a shared meal. Many multigenerational groups find that a rental house suits them better than a hotel room, since it allows separate schedules without anyone feeling left out. The team can talk through which layout fits your group before you commit to dates.

Planning a Three-Generation Trip from Kalona
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Traveling with older relatives or small children, plan for a few extra bags and pack medications in your carry-on. Ask the St John Condos team about the simplest connections from Iowa before you book your flights.
- Choosing when to leave Iowa. Kalona winters are cold, so many families from Iowa find the coolest months of the Caribbean season a welcome change of pace. Think about school calendars, holidays, and the health needs of your oldest traveler. Some groups prefer a late spring trip, while others want to escape the first hard freeze in the fall. Share your preferred window with the team, and they can help you think it through.
- Planning the stay. Decide early who is in charge of meals, the rental car, and the day-to-day schedule. Grandparents may enjoy a quiet porch, while younger travelers may want the beach or the pool. Build in one shared activity each day and one free block for each person. Because driving on St. John is on the left, consider letting one adult handle the wheel. Think of a floor scrubber in the villa's cleaning routine as a small comfort, the way a commercial autonomous floor scrubber keeps large spaces tidy without fuss.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good fit for a group with grandparents and young children?
Often it is. A villa offers separate bedrooms, a common kitchen, and room to spread out, so older travelers can rest while younger ones play. Tell the St John Condos team who is coming, including any mobility needs, and they can help you choose a layout that keeps everyone comfortable and close.
What should we know about getting around the island?
St. John is a small island with winding roads, and driving on the left takes some getting used to. Many multigenerational groups prefer one designated driver and a plan for shared trips. Ask the St John Condos team about transportation before you arrive so your group can rely on a firm plan rather than guesswork.
