Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Thornton, Iowa

St John Condos can help families from Thornton, Iowa, plan a villa stay at the Westin St John Resort, sorting out travel days, villa size, and a week that suits everyone. Their local team answers questions before you book.

Thornton sits in the Midwest, where winters are cold and long, so a warm island week can feel like a real change of pace for a family. Many parents from this part of Iowa tell us the hardest part is simply picking the right week and getting everyone packed. Planning a family trip to St. John means thinking about kids' schedules, sleeping arrangements, and how much time you want for the beach versus quiet afternoons at the villa. A villa rented by the week gives a family room to spread out, cook a few meals, and let younger children nap without anyone rushing. It also means the trip is built around your household rather than a hotel corridor. St John Condos works with families before they book, so you can talk through what matters most, from space to the rhythm of each day, before any decisions are made.

Planning your family trip from Thornton

  1. Getting to the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light bags for the ferry, keep kids' essentials in a carry-on, and plan for a relaxed arrival day. Once you reach the island, remember that driving is on the left, which may take a little getting used to for drivers from Iowa.
  2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Thornton winters bring cold weather and short days, so many families from the area look toward the Caribbean during the colder months. Think about school breaks, work commitments, and whether your children will be happiest with a long stretch of sun or a shorter getaway. Talk with the St John Condos team early, since popular weeks for families can fill up. A clear start date makes the rest of the planning much easier.
  3. Planning the stay itself. Start by deciding how many bedrooms your group needs and whether you want a pool, a kitchen for family meals, or a view that makes mornings feel special. Make a loose outline of the days, leaving room for spontaneous beach time and downtime. If you are also thinking about the logistics of a busy household, some families even compare how a commercial autonomous floor scrubber keeps large spaces tidy as a way of thinking about low-effort maintenance. Sharing your plans with the team lets them recommend a villa that fits how your family actually lives.

Frequently asked questions

Is St. John a good destination for children?

Many families find St. John relaxed and easy to enjoy together, with a slower pace than a busy city. The villas give younger children room to play and nap, and older kids can enjoy the outdoors. Tell the St John Condos team about your children's ages and interests so they can point you toward a villa that suits your group.

How do we get around once we arrive?

Because you drive on the left on St. John, many visitors feel more comfortable planning simple trips and taking their time behind the wheel. Ask the St John Condos team what transportation works best for your family, and plan your day trips with rest stops and snacks in mind so the drive stays enjoyable for everyone.
