Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in South Beach, Florida
St John Condos, a local team, helps families from South Beach plan a shared stay at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, US Virgin Islands. Ask them anything before you book, including how a multi-generation trip can fit together.
South Beach sits in the Southeast, where the weather stays warm for most of the year, so many families from this part of Florida already know the feel of a sunny, relaxed trip. A stay on St. John can feel familiar in that way while still offering a change of scenery. For grandparents, parents, and children traveling together, the island works well because the villa setting gives everyone room to spread out and still gather for meals. Planning a trip that covers three generations takes more thought than a couples getaway. Each person has different energy levels, needs for quiet time, and ideas about what a good day looks like. A villa rented by the week lets you split up for the morning and come back together in the evening. Talking through these differences early, with a team that knows the property, makes the whole trip easier to enjoy for everyone involved.

Getting from South Beach to St. John
- Reach St. Thomas first. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, using the airport code STT, since that is where the trip to St. John begins. From the airport, a taxi will take your group to Red Hook. Plan for older relatives to have a bit of extra time for the transfer, and ask about seating and luggage space before you travel so everyone arrives comfortable and ready for the next leg.
- Choose your departure window. Deciding when to leave Florida matters more with a mixed-age group. Consider school calendars, work schedules, and how each relative handles long days of travel. Many families prefer a departure that lets the group settle in before the first full day on the island. Think about whether a slower start suits your crew, and let the team know your preferences so they can help you plan.
- Plan the stay together. Once you know who is coming, sketch out the stay as a group. Decide which days will be shared, which will be open, and where meals will happen. Driving on St. John is on the left, so consider who will be comfortable behind the wheel and who might prefer a relaxed pace. Ask St John Condos about villa layouts and accessibility so the stay fits the whole family.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good choice for three generations traveling together?
Often, yes. A villa gives grandparents, parents, and children separate spaces to rest while still sharing a kitchen, dining area, and outdoor areas. Because villas are rented by the week, the group can settle in and move at a shared pace without changing accommodations. The team can describe layouts so you can match rooms to each person's needs.
How should we handle getting everyone from South Beach to St. John?
Most families fly to St. Thomas, then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Ask the team early about the transfer so you can plan seating, luggage, and any help needed for older travelers. Knowing the steps in advance tends to make the day feel smoother for the whole group.
