Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Sheldon, Iowa
St John Condos helps travelers from Sheldon, Iowa, plan a beach-focused trip to St. John, where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week and the local team answers questions before you book.
Sheldon sits in the northwest part of Iowa, a region of open farmland and long stretches of flat land. Many people who live there spend much of the year watching the sky for weather, so the idea of a warm, sandy shoreline can feel like a welcome change. A beach-centered trip gives you a clear purpose: sun, water, and slow mornings with nothing urgent on the calendar. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, known in general for its beaches, hillside views, and quiet pace. Its climate stays warm through most of the year, which is a useful contrast for anyone leaving a Midwestern winter behind. A villa rented by the week at the Westin St John Resort gives you space to settle in, cook a few meals, and let the beach set the rhythm of each day.

Planning a beach trip from Sheldon
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan your connections from Iowa with that route in mind, and keep a little slack in your schedule so the day of travel feels relaxed rather than rushed.
- Choosing when to leave Iowa. Think about the season you want to escape. Winter in Iowa is cold and gray, so many travelers from Sheldon look to the islands during those months. Consider your own calendar, school breaks, and work commitments, then pick a window that gives you the most beach time without crowding the days on either side.
- Planning the stay. Decide how you want your days to feel. Some guests like a full itinerary of water activities, while others prefer lounging near the sand with a book. Once you have a sense of your pace, reach out to the St John Condos team with questions about the villa before you book, and sketch out a simple plan for beach days, meals, and rest.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a car on St. John if I plan to spend most of my time at the beach?
It depends on how far you want to roam. Driving on St. John is on the left side of the road, which takes some getting used to. Many beach-focused guests keep their plans close to the villa and only drive when they want to visit other shores. The St John Condos team can talk through what suits your plans.
Is a week-long villa stay a good fit for someone coming from Sheldon?
A week is a common stay length and gives you time to unwind after the trip itself. Villas are rented by the week, so you can settle in, enjoy several beach mornings, and still have room for a slow, easy pace. If you want to talk through dates or what to expect, the local team is happy to answer questions before you book.
