Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Sharpsburg, Iowa

St John Condos can help travelers from Sharpsburg, Iowa, plan a milestone celebration on St. John, where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week and the team answers questions before you book.

A milestone celebration asks for a little more planning than an ordinary trip, and for many people in Sharpsburg that starts with the question of how to reach a small island from the middle of the country. Iowa is a long way from the Caribbean, and the winters there are cold, so a warm week on St. John can feel like a real change of season. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Once you arrive, the pace of the island tends to slow things down in a welcome way. A villa rented by the week gives your group room to gather, cook a quiet dinner, and mark the occasion without rushing from one place to the next. If you are used to driving on the right, keep in mind that traffic on St. John moves on the left, so take a moment to settle in before you head out.

Planning your celebration from Sharpsburg

  1. Getting to St. John. Begin by looking at how you will travel from Sharpsburg to St. Thomas, the airport most visitors use. From there, a taxi will carry you to Red Hook, and the passenger ferry will take you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little slack into your schedule so the transfers feel relaxed rather than hurried, especially when the group includes older relatives or young children who may need a break along the way.
  2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Think about the season you want to leave a cold Iowa winter behind. Many people from Sharpsburg enjoy the islands most when they time the trip around a date that already matters to them, such as an anniversary or a milestone birthday. Ask the St John Condos team which weeks suit your group before you commit, since they can speak plainly about what to expect and help you line up the celebration with the rest of your calendar.
  3. Planning the stay. Once your dates are set, decide how your celebration will unfold day to day. Some groups choose one evening meal at the villa and a relaxed day at the beach, while others prefer a few planned moments to mark the occasion. Share your ideas with the St John Condos team early, and they will help you pick a villa that fits your group size and the mood you want, with room for a simple toast or a small surprise.

Frequently asked questions

Is St. John a practical place to celebrate a milestone if I live in Sharpsburg?

Yes, many visitors from inland states find it rewarding. The trip involves a flight to St. Thomas, a taxi to Red Hook, and a passenger ferry to Cruz Bay, so it takes some planning. Once there, a villa rented by the week gives your group a private, unhurried setting for the celebration.

What should I know about getting around once I am on the island?

Driving on St. John is on the left, which may feel unfamiliar if you usually drive on the right from Iowa. Take a few moments to get comfortable before heading out on the roads. The St John Condos team can answer more specific questions about getting around before you book your villa.
