Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Sabula, Iowa

St John Condos can help travelers from Sabula, Iowa, plan a first trip to the Caribbean, with villas at the Westin St John Resort rented by the week and answers from a local team before you book.

A first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step when you live in the middle of the country. For many people in Sabula, the islands sit well outside everyday life, and the planning can seem more involved than a trip to the lakes or a long weekend in a larger city. St John Condos is a local team that rents villas at the Westin St John Resort, and we are glad to talk through the details with you before you commit to anything. Iowa winters are cold, so the appeal of warm water and a slower pace is easy to understand. Many visitors from Sabula arrive wanting a quiet week rather than a packed schedule. Our villas are rented by the week, which gives you room to settle in, unpack, and find your own rhythm on the island without rushing from one thing to the next.

Planning your first trip from Sabula

  1. Getting to St. John. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there you take a taxi to Red Hook, then board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan your flights with that route in mind, and keep a little patience for the transfers. Once you land, the island feels close at hand, and the trip itself becomes part of the adventure.
  2. Choosing when to go. Iowa's seasons are sharply different from the tropics, so think about when you can comfortably leave home. The islands stay warm year round, which means you can pick a week that fits your work and family calendar rather than chasing a particular season. Talk with our team if you are unsure which weeks suit your plans best.
  3. Planning your stay. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which may take some getting used to if you are coming from Iowa. Consider whether you want to rent a car or rely on taxis and walking. Think about groceries, meals out, and how you want to spend each day. A relaxed plan with a few chosen outings often makes a first island trip feel most rewarding.
