Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Rose Hill, Iowa
St John Condos helps three generations from Rose Hill, Iowa, plan one shared stay on St. John, with villas that give everyone room to spread out and still gather for meals together.
A trip with grandparents, parents, and children is a different kind of planning. Rose Hill families often start with the question of who needs what: a quiet morning for the oldest travelers, a stretch of open beach for the youngest, and a place where everyone can meet at the end of the day. Villas suit this well because they offer separate bedrooms, a kitchen for simple breakfasts, and a porch where conversation can run long. Iowa winters are cold and gray, so many people arrive on St. John feeling the change right away. That shift can be easier on older relatives when the pace is slow and the plans are clear. St John Condos works with multi-generation groups to match the villa to the mix of ages, so no one ends up hauling their bags up a steep path or sharing a single bathroom with the whole family.

Planning a shared trip from Rose Hill
- Getting to the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, the airport code is STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan this route with the oldest traveler in mind, and ask about seating, luggage handling, and how much walking is involved so the first day goes smoothly for everyone.
- Choosing when to go. Iowa families often pick a window that fits school calendars and farm or work schedules, then build around it. Talk with the whole group before you commit, since grandparents may prefer a calmer season and teenagers may want more activity. The St John Condos team can talk through the options with you before you book.
- Planning the stay. Rent by the week so there is time to rest, not just to rush from one outing to the next. Share a simple plan that covers beach time, quiet afternoons, and a few group dinners. Renting a car on the island means driving on the left, so consider who will drive and whether everyone is comfortable with that.
