Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Plainview, Iowa
St John Condos helps three generations from Plainview, Iowa, plan one shared villa stay at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, with a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
A trip that brings grandparents, parents, and children together asks for more planning than most vacations. Plainview is a Midwest city where many families know the rhythm of long winters and short summers, and that experience shapes what a group expects from time away. St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort, and the team there understands that a shared house can suit a mixed group of ages better than separate rooms spread across a hotel floor. On St. John, the day tends to move at the pace of the island, which many multigenerational groups find restful. A villa gives each generation its own corner, a common table for meals, and room to step away without leaving the group. Before you commit, you can ask the local team about layouts, access, and what the week will look like for the youngest and oldest members of your family.

Getting from Plainview to St. John
- Reaching the islands. Most visitors from Iowa fly to St. Thomas, airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook, where the passenger ferry carries travelers across to Cruz Bay on St. John. With a group spanning three generations, it helps to plan seats together, confirm who needs help with luggage, and decide early who will ride in which vehicle. Driving on St. John is on the left, so the ride from the ferry is worth thinking through with care.
- Choosing when to leave. Plainview families often weigh school calendars, harvest and farm schedules, and the winter weather at home when picking a departure window. Visiting the islands in a season that suits older relatives and young children alike keeps the trip comfortable. Talk through what each generation needs, from energy levels to medical appointments, so the calendar works for everyone before flights are booked.
- Planning the stay. A villa is rented by the week, which gives a multigenerational group room to settle in rather than moving every few nights. Divide the work early: one person can handle groceries, another the outings, and a third the quiet afternoons for those who prefer to rest. Share your group's needs with the St John Condos team, such as accessibility or bedroom arrangements, and they can help you match the right villa to your family.
Frequently asked questions
Can a villa work for grandparents, parents, and young children together?
Many families find a villa suits a mixed group well, because each generation can have space to rest or gather as they wish. Tell the St John Condos team about your group's ages and needs, and they can help you understand bedroom layouts and common areas before you book.
Is it hard for older relatives to travel from Plainview to St. John?
The trip involves flying to St. Thomas, a taxi ride to Red Hook, and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay, so it takes some planning. Share any mobility concerns with the St John Condos team ahead of time so they can help you prepare a route and settle on a villa that fits your family.
