Planning a beach trip from Mount Union

  1. Getting to the island. Most travelers from Mount Union fly into St. Thomas, the STT airport, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light for the transfers, since you will be carrying your bags onto a boat, and confirm your ferry plans with the St John Condos team so the last leg feels simple.
  2. Choosing when to go. Iowa winters are cold and gray, so many people from Mount Union look to the islands in the cooler months when the weather feels most like a break from home. Think about what kind of beach time you want, whether that is calm mornings, quiet afternoons, or simply a steady stretch of warm sun. Let the season you pick shape how long you stay and how much you plan in advance.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a beach-focused trip well because you can settle in and let the days stretch out. Decide early whether you want a sea-facing villa, how you will spend your mornings on the sand, and where you would like to eat. Ask the St John Condos team any question about the property before you book, so your week on the water starts exactly as you pictured it.
