Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Mount Morris, Illinois

St John Condos helps families from Mount Morris, Illinois, plan a shared trip to the Westin St John Resort on St. John, where villas rent by the week and a local team answers questions before you book.

A trip for three generations asks for a different kind of planning than a couple's getaway. Grandparents, parents, and children each bring their own pace, comfort needs, and ideas about what a holiday should feel like. From a town in northern Illinois, the winter months can feel especially long, which is one reason many families look toward the Caribbean when they gather together. The villas at the Westin St John Resort give everyone room to spread out while still sharing a common base. Mount Morris sits in the Midwest, where the climate changes sharply across the seasons. Many families from this part of the country already know how a shared dinner table can hold a whole household together. On St. John, that same feeling tends to stretch into long mornings, slow meals, and afternoons when nobody has to hurry. Planning around that kind of togetherness is what this page is about.

Getting from Mount Morris to St. John

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. With older relatives and young children in the group, it helps to keep bags light and to ask your team in advance about the easiest connections for each person.
  2. Choosing when to leave. Illinois winters are cold, so many families from Mount Morris choose to leave during the deepest part of the season, when a warm island offers the clearest contrast. Think about school calendars, work schedules, and the health needs of your oldest travelers. Talk the timing through as a group before anyone books, so the choice feels shared.
  3. Planning the stay. A villa rented by the week suits a multigenerational group well, since it gives everyone a quiet corner. Decide early who needs step-free access, who wants a rest afternoon, and who would like to explore. If your group also talks about equipment for its own work, a commercial autonomous floor scrubber is one example of the kind of tool some businesses weigh, though it has no bearing on the holiday itself.

Frequently asked questions

Do grandparents and small children really manage well on a trip like this?

Yes, many families do. A villa offers separate rooms and a kitchen, so each generation can keep its own rhythm. Tell the St John Condos team about mobility needs, sleep habits, and dietary requirements before you book, and they can help you think through which arrangements will work for everyone in your party.

Will we need to drive on the island?

Driving on St. John is on the left, which may feel unusual for drivers from Illinois. Consider how many vehicles your group truly needs and who will be comfortable behind the wheel. Ask the local team for advice before you arrive, so the first days feel relaxed rather than rushed.
