Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Hillcrest, Illinois
St John Condos helps families in Hillcrest, Illinois, plan a multigenerational trip to St. John, where a villa at the Westin St John Resort gives grandparents, parents, and children room to share one home base. Our local team answers questions before you book.
Planning a trip that brings three generations together means balancing very different needs. Grandparents may want quiet mornings and an easy pace, parents often want a little structure, and children want to be outside as much as possible. Travelers from Hillcrest, Illinois, usually arrive from a landlocked state with a long winter behind them, so the warm, bright setting of St. John can feel like a real change of season for everyone at once. A villa rented by the week is a practical answer to that mix of ages. Everyone keeps their own space, shared meals stay simple, and no one has to adjust to a hotel schedule. Hillcrest families often tell us that having one common room to gather in matters more than any single outing, and that a kitchen on the premises makes the whole trip feel calmer and more relaxed for the older members of the group.

Getting from Hillcrest to St. John
- Start with the flight. Most visitors from Hillcrest fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan the connections with the youngest and oldest travelers in mind, and allow for a relaxed pace between flights so no one arrives worn out before the vacation begins.
- Pick the right season. Illinois winters are cold, so many families from Hillcrest choose to leave during the coldest months when the islands offer their most welcome warmth. Talk with the whole group about which weeks suit grandparents, school calendars, and any mobility needs, then compare options with our team before you commit to dates.
- Plan the stay around everyone. Build the days around rest as much as activity. Keep a flexible plan with a few shared meals, some free time for each generation, and at least one slow morning. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so consider who will drive and whether a shared ride suits everyone better for longer outings.
Frequently asked questions
Can a villa work well for grandparents, parents, and young children together?
Yes, many multigenerational groups choose a villa because each household or age group can have its own room and quiet corner. A shared living space and kitchen give everyone a place to gather, and the flexibility of a rental by the week lets the group settle into a comfortable rhythm without a hotel-style schedule.
Do I need to arrange anything with the ferry before we arrive?
Most travelers from Hillcrest reach St. John through St. Thomas, then take a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Our team can explain what to expect for the transfer and answer questions about bags, mobility, and timing so the whole family arrives with as little stress as possible.
