Getting from McCausland to St. John

  1. Reaching the islands. Most visitors from McCausland fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little slack in your schedule for connections, since travel days in the islands tend to move at an easygoing speed. Keep your documents handy and pack a light bag for the ferry.
  2. Picking the right season. Iowa winters are cold, so many couples from McCausland look toward the islands during the colder months, when the air is mild and the days are bright. Shoulder seasons can offer a calmer feel and fewer crowds at the beaches. Think about what kind of trip you want, whether that is a romantic reset, a quiet anniversary, or a stretch of time just for the two of you, and let that guide the dates.
  3. Planning your stay. A villa rented by the week gives you a home base with space to relax, which many couples prefer over a rushed itinerary. Decide ahead of time how much you want planned and how much you want open, and bring along any items you rely on. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so take a moment to adjust before heading out on the roads. Ask the St John Condos team anything that feels unclear before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to rent a car on St. John?

Many visitors find a rental car useful for getting around the island, but you will be driving on the left side of the road. Think about how you plan to spend your days, whether you want to head out often or stay close to the villa. The St John Condos team can talk through options with you before you book.

Is a villa a good choice for a couples trip from Iowa?

Many couples from the Midwest choose a villa because it offers privacy, a kitchen for quiet mornings, and space to slow down together. Since villas are rented by the week, you can settle in rather than moving from place to place. If you have questions about layout or what is included, the local team is happy to help.
