Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Matlock, Iowa
St John Condos is a local team that helps travelers from Matlock, Iowa, plan a week away with friends at a villa on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Reach out with questions before you book and we will talk through the details with you.
A week away with friends from Matlock usually means a lot of shared decisions, from who handles the rental car to which afternoon belongs to the beach. Iowa is a long way from the Virgin Islands, and most travelers from the Midwest find that the planning is easier when they settle the basics early. The Westin St John Resort area gives a group room to spread out in a villa while still being close to the water and the rest of the island. Many groups who come down from the Midwest are surprised by how relaxed the island feels once they arrive, and how much of the week can be left unscheduled. A villa rented by the week gives everyone a place to gather in the morning and retreat in the afternoon. If your crew is bringing a mix of schedules and comfort levels, a shared home base tends to keep the trip feeling like a trip rather than a logistics project.

Planning a week away from Matlock
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Since the group is coming from Matlock, it helps to agree early on who is flying in when, so that everyone can share the taxi and ferry together rather than piecing it out one by one.
- Choosing when to leave Iowa. Winters in Iowa are cold, so many friend groups prefer to travel during the colder months when the Caribbean feels like a welcome break. Think about your group's shared calendar, work commitments, and whether anyone needs to coordinate school or family obligations. Once you have a few candidate weeks, share them with the group and pick the one that fits the most people before you ask us to check availability.
- Planning the stay itself. Decide early whether you want a quiet week of reading and swimming or a more active schedule with day trips. Agree on a shared budget for groceries and meals, and note that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road, which can take a little getting used to. Send us your questions before you book, and we will help you match the villa to the size and style of your group.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a rental car if we are traveling as a group from Matlock?
Many groups find a rental car useful for getting around the island, since driving on St. John is on the left. Plan to share the cost and the driving among your friends, and make sure at least two people feel comfortable with the left-side rules before you set out. We can talk through what works best for your group size.
How far in advance should a group from Iowa book a villa?
Groups with many people often benefit from booking early, since the right villa for a larger crew can go quickly. Share your preferred dates with the whole group first so you only need to ask once.
