Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Martelle, Iowa

St John Condos helps three generations from Martelle, Iowa, plan one shared villa stay on St. John, so grandparents, parents, and children can travel together with less guesswork. Ask the local team before you book.

A family trip that spans three generations asks for more planning than a typical getaway. Grandparents may want quiet mornings, parents may want a few outings, and children may want space to run. Coming from Martelle, Iowa, you are likely used to a landlocked home and cooler seasons, so the warm island air and the slower rhythm of St. John can be a welcome change for everyone at once. St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort, and that setup suits a multigenerational group well. Several bedrooms and shared living areas let each generation keep its own rhythm while still gathering for meals. Before you commit, our local team can talk through what each person in your group needs, so the week feels like one trip rather than three separate ones.

Planning a trip from Martelle

  1. Reaching the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas (STT), then take a taxi to Red Hook and catch the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. With older relatives and young children, plan for bags, car seats, and a few transfers, and consider how much help each person will need along the way. Once on St. John, remember that driving is on the left, which is worth a quick refresher before anyone takes the wheel.
  2. Choosing when to go. Iowa winters are cold, so many families from Martelle find the island especially appealing from late winter into spring, when a warm break feels most welcome. Think about school calendars, work schedules, and which dates suit your oldest and youngest travelers. Share a few preferred windows with the St John Condos team, and they can help you weigh the options before you settle on a week.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, so agree early on how you will split the space, meals, and any outings. Decide whether grandparents want a quieter schedule, whether parents need time alone, and what the children would enjoy most. Write these notes down and bring them to your first conversation with St John Condos, so the villa you choose matches the way your three generations actually like to travel.
