Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Marcus, Iowa
St John Condos helps travelers from Marcus, Iowa, plan a shared trip for three generations at the Westin St John Resort, with villas rented by the week and a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
A trip with grandparents, parents, and children asks for a different kind of planning than a trip for two. Marcus sits in the heart of the Midwest, where winters are cold and long, so many families from here are ready for warm water and a slower pace when they finally get the chance. The idea of gathering everyone in one place, with room for quiet mornings and shared dinners, is often what draws a multigenerational group to the islands in the first place. The Westin St John Resort on St. John offers villas that give each generation its own space while keeping the whole group close. Because villas are rented by the week, you can settle in and let the days unfold without rushing from place to place. St John Condos is a local team, so before you commit you can talk through what your family needs, from accessible rooms to sleeping arrangements, and get honest answers from people who know the island.

Planning a trip from Marcus
- Getting to the island. Most visitors reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, and a passenger ferry crosses to Cruz Bay. Plan for this final stretch together, since bags and older relatives are easier to manage with a clear plan. Driving on St. John is on the left, so think about whether your group will rent a car or rely on the resort and taxis.
- Choosing when to go. Iowa winters are cold, so many families from Marcus look toward the coldest months as the natural time to head south. Consider school calendars, grandparents' health, and how well everyone handles heat before you settle on dates. The islands are warm year round, so the decision often comes down to what fits your group rather than the weather alone. Ask the St John Condos team which weeks suit a large household.
- Planning the stay. Start by listing what each generation hopes to do, whether that is lounging by the pool, walking the trails, or simply sharing meals on a terrace. Choose a villa with enough bedrooms and bathrooms so no one feels crowded. Think about meals, a shared plan for days out, and time apart. Commercial autonomous floor scrubber systems may be something you hear about in resort operations, but for your trip, keep the focus on comfort, rest, and time together.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good choice for three generations traveling together?
Often it is. A villa gives grandparents, parents, and children separate rooms and a shared living space in one place. Everyone can keep their own rhythm during the day and still gather for meals. Talk with the St John Condos team about layouts so you can match the villa to your group's sleeping needs and comfort.
What should we consider about getting around the island?
Driving on St. John is on the left, which may take some adjustment for visitors from Iowa. Think about how your group will move between the villa, the beach, and town. Older family members may prefer fewer transfers, so plan rides in advance and ask the team what options suit your household.
