Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Lake of the Woods, Illinois

St John Condos helps friends from Lake of the Woods, Illinois, plan a week together on St. John, rented as a villa by the week at the Westin St John Resort. Ask the local team anything before you book.

A week away with friends from Lake of the Woods is a different kind of trip than a family getaway. Everyone wants a shared space to gather, a quiet porch for morning coffee, and enough room that nobody feels crowded on the third day. A villa rented by the week gives your group a home base on St. John, with separate bedrooms, a kitchen for late-night snacks, and room to spread out when you want to. Lake of the Woods sits in the northern part of Illinois, where winters are cold and gray, so many friends here are ready for warm water and bright light. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and its tropical climate is common knowledge for most travelers. Planning around that contrast, and around how your group likes to spend its days, is where a good week really begins.

Getting to St. John from Lake of the Woods

  1. Reach St. Thomas First. Most visitors from Lake of the Woods fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. Coordinate arrival times with your group so everyone lands close together. Once you are on the ground, a taxi will take you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay on St. John, the island's main town. Keep bags light so the ferry crossing stays easy for everyone.
  2. Pick Your Leaving Window. Illinois winters are long, so many friends from Lake of the Woods choose the warmer months for a shared getaway, when the island feels especially inviting. Talk with your group about school schedules, work commitments, and who has to be back by a certain date. Settling on a window early makes it simpler to compare options and to lock in a villa that fits everyone's plans.
  3. Plan The Week Together. A group week works best when people agree on a rough shape before arriving. Decide who handles groceries, who drives the rental car, and whether you want relaxed mornings or a packed itinerary. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so the designated driver should be comfortable with that. Leave some open afternoons so the week feels like a getaway, not a checklist.
