Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Green Mountain, Iowa

St John Condos can help travelers from Green Mountain, Iowa, plan a beach-focused stay at a villa on St. John, where most days are built around sand, water, and an easy pace. Ask us anything before you book.

Green Mountain sits in the middle of the country, far from any ocean, so a beach trip here usually starts with a long-planned escape from the familiar flatlands. Many travelers from this part of Iowa want the reverse of their everyday life: warm air, clear water, and a quiet schedule that leaves room for sand between their toes. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, is a natural fit for that goal, with a sheltered Caribbean coastline and a setting that rewards slow mornings. A beach-centered trip works best when the lodging supports it. St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort, and the planning conversation usually centers on how you want your days to unfold, whether that means a long walk along the shore, time in the shallows, or an afternoon with a book under a shade umbrella. Our team is happy to talk through what matters most to you so the trip feels like the beach holiday you pictured back home in Green Mountain.

Planning a beach trip from Green Mountain

  1. Reaching St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for a bit of transit at each stage, and pack a light bag you can carry yourself, since the ferry and taxi legs are simpler without a lot of luggage to manage.
  2. Choosing your departure window. Iowa winters are cold, so many travelers from Green Mountain aim for the islands during the colder months back home, when the Caribbean feels most like a reward. Think about school calendars, work commitments, and the weather you want to leave behind. Once you have a window in mind, we can talk through which weeks suit a beach-focused trip best.
  3. Building your days around the water. Rentals on St. John are booked by the week, which gives you room to settle in and let the beach set the rhythm. Plan a few anchor activities, leave open mornings for swimming, and note that driving here is on the left side of the road. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a light sweater for air-conditioned spaces, and let the trip unfold at its own pace.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a rental car to enjoy the beach on St. John?

Many visitors find a rental car useful for reaching different stretches of coastline, but the island is compact and some guests prefer to rely on taxis and walking. Keep in mind that driving here is on the left. Our team can share what to expect so you can decide what fits your style before you arrive from Green Mountain.

Is a beach-focused week at a villa a good fit for a first trip to the islands?

Yes, a villa stay is a comfortable way to start, especially for travelers coming from a landlocked part of the country.
