A milestone is worth marking, and many people from Goose Lake, Iowa, choose to mark theirs somewhere far from the everyday. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, offers a quiet setting with clear water and a relaxed rhythm that suits a celebration with close friends or family. Our villas at the Westin St John Resort give you room to gather, cook together, and spend slow mornings without a schedule pressing in. Coming from the middle of the country, the change can feel significant. Winters in Iowa are cold, so arriving to warm sun and tropical air often feels like a gift in itself. St. John is a small island with a modest pace, which means the focus stays on the people you are celebrating. Many visitors find that this simplicity is exactly what makes the occasion feel personal and unhurried.

Planning your celebration trip from Goose Lake

  1. Getting to the island. Most visitors from Goose Lake reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. From there, a taxi takes you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan for a little extra time between connections, especially if your group is traveling together and bags need to be gathered. Our team can walk you through each leg so the journey feels smooth before the celebration begins.
  2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Think about the season you prefer and the kind of celebration you want. Traveling during the coldest months of the Iowa winter can make a warm island escape especially welcome, while other seasons bring their own appeal. Consider how many guests you hope to invite and whether everyone can align their calendars. A thoughtful choice of dates helps your milestone feel like the centerpiece of the trip rather than an afterthought.
  3. Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives your group space to settle in and enjoy each day at a comfortable pace. Decide early whether you want quiet days by the pool, a shared dinner on the deck, or a little of both. Since you will be driving on the left side of the road on St. John, consider how you will get around. Share your plans with our team, and we will help you choose a villa and details that fit your celebration.
