Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Girard, Illinois

St John Condos helps families from Girard, Illinois, plan a multigenerational trip to St. John, where villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week. Our local team answers questions before you book.

A trip for three generations asks a lot of any plan. Grandparents, parents, and children each bring different needs for space, pace, and comfort. A villa rented by the week lets everyone keep their own routines while still sharing meals and mornings together. For families from Girard, Illinois, where winters are cold and the landscape is flat and inland, the contrast of warm Caribbean air can feel like a true change of season. Think of the trip as a shared project rather than a single itinerary. Ask each generation what they hope to get from the week, whether that is quiet time by the water, a slow breakfast, or simply a chance to talk without rushing. Small decisions made early, like how many bedrooms you need and who wants to be near whom, tend to shape the whole stay in a good way.

Planning a Girard family trip to St. John

  1. Getting from the area. Most visitors reach St. John by flying to St. Thomas, airport code STT, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan this stretch with patience, since a group of three generations moves more slowly than a couple. Keep essential medications and comfort items in carry-on bags, and let the oldest and youngest travelers have seats close together where possible.
  2. Choosing when to leave Illinois. Leaving a cold Midwest winter behind is one of the main reasons families from Girard head south. Consider timing around school calendars and the needs of older relatives, who may prefer a gentler schedule. Talk with everyone early so that the dates suit the whole group rather than only the most flexible traveler.
  3. Planning the stay. Choose a villa that gives everyone a place to retreat, and decide early whether you want shared dinners or separate plans on some days. Driving on St. John is on the left, so consider whether a younger or more confident driver should handle the road. Our team can talk through layouts and accessibility before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Is a villa a good fit for three generations traveling together?

Many families find that a villa offers more room to spread out than a single hotel room, along with a kitchen for simple breakfasts and a shared space to gather. Tell our team who is in your group and what each person needs, and we can help you think through the layout before you book.

Do we need to rent a car on St. John?

Driving on St. John is on the left, and roads can be winding, so renting a car is a personal decision that depends on your group. Some families prefer to arrange transport in advance for older relatives. Ask our local team what options suit your plans.
