Franklin sits in the heart of Iowa, where summers are warm and winters are cold. For many families, a trip to the Caribbean offers a welcome change of scenery and a chance to slow down together. St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort, so you can spread out, cook a few meals, and keep the kids close while everyone unwinds. Planning a family trip from the Midwest often means balancing school calendars, work schedules, and a budget that stretches across several people. Think about what your household really wants from the week, whether that is quiet mornings, time at the water, or simply room to relax. A villa stay gives you space that a standard hotel room may not, and our team is glad to talk through what fits your family before you commit.

Planning a Family Trip from Franklin

  1. Getting to the Island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for a little extra time with children, pack a light bag for the ferry, and keep snacks and essentials within reach. Once you arrive, remember that driving on St. John is on the left, so take a moment to adjust before getting behind the wheel.
  2. Choosing When to Go. Iowa families often look for a window when school is out or when winter is at its coldest. Consider whether you want the warmest months or the quieter stretches of the year, and think about how your children handle travel days. Our team can share what to expect from the seasons on the island so you can match your timing to your family's needs and enjoy a stay that feels unhurried.
  3. Planning the Stay. Start by deciding how many nights your family wants and which villa layout suits your group. Make a rough list of activities, meals, and quiet time so the week has a comfortable rhythm. Share your plans with the St John Condos team, who can answer questions about the villas and the resort before you book, giving your family a clear picture of the trip ahead.
