Planning a beach trip from Diagonal

  1. Getting to St. John. Most travelers from Diagonal fly to St. Thomas, arriving at the STT airport. From there, a taxi carries you to Red Hook, where the passenger ferry crosses to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep your bags manageable for the ferry, and remember that driving on the island is on the left, so think about whether you want a car at all or prefer to stay near the water.
  2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Iowa winters are cold, so many people from Diagonal pick the warmer months of the year for a beach trip. The islands stay warm and bright across much of the calendar, so choose a stretch when your schedule allows an unhurried week. Booking early gives you a better choice of villas, and the St John Condos team can help you match dates to what you want from the beach.
  3. Planning the stay. Build your days around the water rather than a packed itinerary. Pick a villa with a view or easy access to the resort beach, stock a few basics, and leave open mornings for swimming and afternoons for shade. Renting by the week means you can settle in, so use the first day to learn the rhythm of the shoreline before deciding where to spend the rest.
