Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Cortland, Illinois
St John Condos helps friends from Cortland, Illinois, plan a week together at a villa near the Westin St John Resort, and the local team is glad to answer questions before you book. Their guidance covers the trip from the Midwest to the islands and the details of sharing a villa.
A week away with friends from Cortland often starts as a loose idea over a meal and turns into a shared plan once people start comparing calendars. Illinois winters are long and gray, so a stretch of warm Caribbean sun on St. John can feel like a reward everyone has been waiting for. Villas at the Westin St John Resort give a group room to spread out, cook a few meals, and still keep the beach close. Planning for a group is less about finding one perfect spot and more about agreeing on the small things early. Who handles the rental, how costs are split, and which days are reserved for lazy mornings or long walks all matter. Talking through these questions with the St John Condos team before you commit can save a lot of back and forth later in the planning.

Getting your Cortland group to St. John
- Plan the journey together. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Because your group is coming from the Midwest, it helps to compare options early and let everyone know which connection they will be on. Keeping arrival days aligned makes the ferry and taxi legs far easier for everyone.
- Pick a window for leaving Illinois. Illinois can still be cold well into spring, so many friend groups aim for a stretch when home feels least inviting. The islands stay warm year round, which gives you more flexibility than you might expect. Talk through work schedules, school breaks, and time off as a group. Once you settle on dates, the rest of the trip tends to fall into place.
- Plan the stay around your group. A villa rented by the week suits a group that wants shared space and independence. Agree early on who will cook, what the grocery plan looks like, and how you will get around, since driving on St. John is on the left. Decide what you want from the week, whether that is quiet mornings, shared meals, or some of each. A clear shared plan keeps the trip relaxed, and the St John Condos team can help you think through the details before you book.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to all arrive on the same day?
Not necessarily, but it often makes the ferry and taxi transfers simpler if people land close together. Share your flight details in a group thread as soon as they are booked. If some friends are arriving later, plan who will meet them at Red Hook so nobody waits alone at the dock.
How should a group split the cost of a villa?
Many groups agree on a split before booking and write it down so there are no surprises. Decide whether you will divide evenly or by room, and how shared groceries will be handled. The St John Condos team can answer questions about the rental itself before you commit, so you can settle the details with your friends.
