Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Chatsworth, Iowa

St John Condos can help travelers from Chatsworth, Iowa, plan a week of snorkeling and beach days at a villa on St. John. Villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week, and the local team answers questions before you book.

Chatsworth sits in the northern Midwest, where winters are cold and the lakes and fields are often frozen or covered in snow. For many people from a place like this, a week of warm water, bright sand and quiet mornings on a reef is a welcome change. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, offers exactly that kind of break, with calm bays for snorkeling and beaches that are easy to enjoy for a few days in a row. A snorkeling week on St. John rewards a slower pace. Plan your days around the water, rest in the afternoon, and keep a loose schedule so the sea decides how the trip unfolds. St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort by the week, so you can settle in, unpack once, and let each morning start with a swim, a snorkel mask and a short walk to the sand.

Getting from Chatsworth to St. John

1. Reaching the islands. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, from which they take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Pack light enough to manage the ferry and the taxi, and keep your snorkel gear in your carry-on so it stays with you on the way over.
2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Think about your trip in terms of the season rather than the calendar. Winter in Chatsworth is cold, so many travelers from the Midwest look forward to leaving during the coldest months. Ask the St John Condos team about conditions before you book, and choose dates that give you the calm water and open days you have in mind for snorkeling.
3. Planning the stay. A villa rented by the week suits a snorkeling trip well. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a dry bag for your phone, and water shoes for rocky entries. Plan one or two snorkel outings and leave the other days open for the beach. Driving on St. John is on the left, so take a moment before you get behind the wheel.
