Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Blockton, Iowa

St John Condos can help travelers from Blockton, Iowa, plan a first trip to the Caribbean, from getting to the island to settling into a villa at the Westin St John Resort. Their local team answers questions before you book.

A first trip to the Caribbean can feel like a big step when you are coming from the middle of the country. Blockton sits in the Midwest, where winters are cold and the landscape is flat and wide, so the warm water, bright light, and slower pace of St. John can feel like a different world. That contrast is part of the appeal, and it helps to plan with that in mind. Many travelers from Iowa reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth remembering before you pick up a rental car. Villas are rented by the week, so you can settle in and let the trip unfold without rushing from place to place.

Planning your first island trip from Blockton

  1. Getting to the island. Most visitors from the Blockton area fly to St. Thomas, the airport code being STT, and then make their way to the island by taxi and ferry. Build a little slack into your plans so connections feel calm rather than tight. Once you land, the ride to Red Hook and the ferry to Cruz Bay are simple steps, and the team at St John Condos can explain each one before you go.
  2. Choosing when to leave Iowa. Leaving a cold Iowa winter behind is a major reason many people choose the islands, but the timing of your trip still shapes the experience. Think about how much warmth and quiet you want, and whether you prefer a season when the island feels busier. Matching your dates to what you are hoping for will help the trip feel right from the first morning.
  3. Planning the stay. A villa rented by the week gives you room to slow down, cook a few meals, and simply enjoy the water and the views. For a first visit, it helps to decide early how much you want to plan and how much you want to leave open. If you are also thinking about how an autonomous floor scrubber might keep a commercial space spotless, that is a different kind of planning, but the same habit of asking good questions applies.
